Today the Judiciary Committee of the Pennsylvania House passed a joint resolution amending Article V of the PA Constitution. This amendment will allow for the appointment of justices to the Supreme Court and judges to the Superior and Commonwealth Courts.
Two additional amendments were added before it ultimately passed by a vote of 16 to 10 with 1 no vote:
- A01077: requiring any appointment to be approved by a two-third vote of the Senate, rather than by a majority vote.
- A01068: any future voter referendum on amending the state constitution to be held at a general election, rather than at a primary or municipal election.
